After working for several years in industry in the field of mass spectrometry, she went to Australia to complete a Master of Science degree in Medical Radiation Physics at the University of Wollongong. The choice of Australia was motivated by Wencke’s desire to reach two goals in life at the same time: living abroad and going back into the field of medical imaging, an area, that she also completed her undergraduate thesis in at Philips Medical Systems in Hamburg, Germany.
Wencke did her PhD in Medical Radiation Sciences at the University of Sydney, Australia, with her thesis entitled “Investigation and Correction of Partial Volume Effect in Small Animal Brain Positron Emission Tomography”. She has over six years of experience in PET imaging, related processing and image analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, experimental design and algorithm development. As a 2012 Madrid-MIT M+Visión Fellow, Wencke applied her knowledge and expertise to solving problems with applications in the clinical setting.
