Miyabe, C.Y. is a PhD candidate in Drug Discovery under the mentorship of Dr. Alexandros Makriyannis at Northeastern University. She began researching enzymes as pharmaceutical targets at the University of California, Davis and expanded this focus in her thesis work for her PhD. Miyabe aims to develop a new method for designing active prodrugs that bind to more than one protein target within the same signaling system in succession, called targeted retrograde prodrug design. These compounds will act synergistically, localizing effects, requiring smaller doses, and reducing negative off-target interactions. Miyabe is also passionate about teaching and expanding the arts. She is especially interested in using music as a tool for social interventions, and volunteers with The MUSE Foundation in Brookline.
